A Little About Me: Amanda Craig
My name is Amanda Craig, and I am an emerging mixed media artist based in Bastrop, Texas.
My canvas often features the beautiful landscapes of Bastrop, Texas. On a deeper level, my art explores Christian themes, with a focus on the difficult (but healthy) process of forgiveness and finding true peace. I have fibromyalgia (causing chronic pain and fatigue) and after years of struggling with my health challenges, this process of forgiveness and healing has finally brought me to a place where I am accepting and resting in my situation rather than fighting it. When I can, I also create pieces that bring awareness to the fight against human trafficking in support of a fantastic local ministry, Sheep Dog Initiative. They are doing good work.
I believe art should not be stuffy, because I am not a formally trained artist myself. I am mostly self-taught, but have also taken a class or two to expand my skills.
My desire to create started several years ago with art journaling. From there, I also began creating handbound journals and trying my hand at eco-dying. Eventually I began exploring plaster and acrylic on wood and canvas substrates. I also enjoy creating travel journals with watercolor and graphite.
