A Little About Me: Amanda Craig
My name is Amanda Craig, and I am an emerging artist based in Bastrop, Texas, creating mixed media pieces under the name of Little Haven Art Studio.
My Inspiration
As a mixed media creative, texture is of primary importance to me. I find leaving layer after layer of plaster, paper, paints, recycled objects, graphite, inks, and more on a canvas or wood panel to be a therapeutic process. You leave a trail or history behind you, just like life, and the texture tells a story.
I am also a faith-centric artist. While I do not paint the traditional images some may associate with Christianity, my inspiration for the images I paint is brought to life by viewing life through the lens of my faith. My faith in Jesus gives me confidence about who I am, and the strength to create.
Thematically, I enjoy painting landscapes, florals, and more, including art inspired by the Lost Pines in Bastrop.
My Artistic Journey
My creative journey started in 2017 or so with art journaling and acrylics, handbound journals, and eco-dying. Once I transitioned to canvas and wood panel substrates, I began experimenting with additional mediums, often using handmade or unusual brushes or tools for creative expression.
In addition to more formal art, I also enjoy creating travel journals with watercolor and ink.
I am not a formally trained artist, and I prefer a direct and approachable perspective on art. I love to talk about the creative process and the many ways to create texture in a painting.
